[Reprinted here. A synopsis:] “This was my heritage. I, a descendant of confederate soldiers, even owned a replica gray cap of a confederate infantryman that I would wear as a youth playing in the woods with toy guns, pretending to defend my home against invaders from the North.”

But in the book of 2 Samuel Ch 21, there’s a relevant story: Why did God force David to dig up the past and correct the sins of Saul? Because God hates injustice.

And though it may cost me my heritage, I cannot let a statue stand between me and a potential brother in Christ. Grace offers us something more than heritage – an inheritance.
